How is UVC different from UVA and UVB light?
The sun emits ultraviolet light with UVA and UVB (280-400nm), which is responsible for sun tanning and sun burning.
UVC is almost entirely filtered out through the ozone layer in the high atmosphere but when produced artificially, can penetrate cells and cause damage to the DNA. This damage leads to the inactivation of surface microorganisms. This method is highly efficient during the disinfection process and is what makes Qube it™ so effective.
Simply put, UVC is the more effective type of light when it comes to eliminating germs on hard surfaces. Germicidal UVC lighting can kill over 99.99% of pathogens on objects and sterilizes hard surfaces when used properly. UVC bulbs should not be used unshielded and are not for home lighting use. They are used in shielded devices, such as the Qube it™, for disinfection in industry and for home use.
The window in Qube it™ blocks 100% of the UVC light, leaving only harmless visible light. In other words, you will never see or be exposed to the ultraviolet light. So how do you know if it’s working? Qube it™ has sensors that won’t allow it to run if there isn’t adequate UVC light. Qube it™ will also tell you when it’s finished.
